The NDA is still in effect from lvl 13 and beyond. I been following this game for a while now and already preordered.
There is not gonna be anything revolutionary about AoC nor any other MMO that will come out in the next few years. Its all about how well everything is executed. And i can tell you all the impressions about AoC being real glitchy and buggy are do to the debugger program and uncompressed code. Most experienced MMO players beyond GW will know that every new MMO title will suffer massive bugs and crashes for at least the first month or two.
I have gotten to the point of asking myself what there is to play online since in my eyes Guild Wars has seen brighter days. WAR is to far off to be considered an option. I have been bored for months playing GW, i need something new.

And if you cant afford that, then you cant really be affording computer games either
And IMO Warhammer looks like pants compared to AoC. Its just another WoW clone - zomg humans, orcs and elves!!!!
Give me something new please. Oh wait, AoC is new.

It takes more than a graphics card to be "upgraded".
It's not that I can't afford a new graphics card, it's that I don't want to have to put such a large chunk in my savings so soon. I'd rather wait a few years for the prices of the cards to go down to a more affordable price (and when I've saved up accordingly for it).
So what will I do instead?: Play and purchase a game that will run smoothly. WAR will be one of those games. I definitely won't be the only person doing this.
Also, many would argue that another game of orcs, humans, and elves is far more interesting than one with humans, humans, and humans. But it's taste more than anything.

I couldnt care less if you dont want to upgrade to play AoC m8, it doesnt change the fact that plenty of people already are doing and are looking forward to the game Also I dont understand how people can pay a monthly fee for an MMO, but cant save up for a PC upgrade!!! You are already putting a large chunk of your savings into the fees you pay for your MMO.
Warhammer doesnt even look 25% as good as AoC is going to be, you blinded by technophobia if you think it will be.
And I'm not just talking about the extremely outdated graphics either, it is a direct WoW clone, the whole thing just looks like WoW, yet another orgy of elves, orcs and maybe gnomes, and not just this repetition of characters, but also the exact same gameplay which is just a repetition beyond repetition of WoW. Plenty of players are fed up of WoW's gameplay and are looking for something new. They dont just want another WoW clone, and TBH, most MMORPGs that fail are direct WoW clones, not a brand new type of gameplay like AoC is.
And you are greatly underestimating AoC when you state it as humans humams and humans. It has three races of them first of all, and it has 12 classes to choose from. The game is also based on an extremely popular book which it has been created to represent. Unfortunately, I dont think Hyboria has ever had elves and dwarves unfortunately, and also it isnt meant to be a cute and cuddly game with annoying gnomes running around acting all cutesy. The game is based on a real lore that will attract more players to it. It most likely wont ever reach as many people as WoW, but a game doesnt need to have that many players to be successful anyway.
I dont buy new games to play the same thing over again on an outdated engine, I want new, great gameplay, and up to date graphics, and there are plenty of people that want that too. Why should I pay monthly for a repeat of something I have already played that is on an outdated graphics engine when another game offers something new and looks 10x better? I will take the new, better game thanks.
Just as lots of people like to predict about AoC's early demise, well let me tell you this. Warhammer has a lot less a chance at becoming successful then AoC does. People that want to try a new MMO are going to get to play AoC first. From the look of it, they are going to enjoy it and stay there. Warhammer is a huge step backwards from AoC, people that start Playing AoC are not going to move onto Warhammer because it is extremely outdated in comparison (I.E. like players that play GW that wont play WoW because of its bad graphics). Also most players that dont change from playing WoW or GW to AoC or any other current MMO likely wont be doing because they are happy with the game they are playing right now. They are also going to be unwilling to move onto warhammer. System requirements play little role in which game someone wants to play as gamers will upgrade their PC's and be up to date for current games.
If you take the population of 'GAMERS', people that play games on PC's as a hobby and spend a significant amount of money on games, lets say they buy 6+ games a year, the majority, if not all of these players will have a PC that at least meets the minimum specification for AoC if not better.

It may not be revolutionary but it is something new, particularly the combat system which doesnt just revolve around point and click. Impressions on AoC being glitchy and buggy are coming from an older engine of the game that is being used in a 'BETA' to stress test the game and the servers. The actuall engine of the finished game is a lot more polished, and Funcom have stated 30-40% faster then the engine in the beta. There will still be bugs in the game yes, but there wont be anywhere near as many as there are in the beta! And curent bugs will undoubtably be ironed out before the game launches and there will be a patch and updates very early on to fix a lot of the current bugs.

$15 a month is not a large chunk of money. It is a very trivial amount. However, to a lot of people, a 'simple upgrade' requires a full rebuild of their PC. Me, for instance. If I want to upgrade to a PCI-E video card, I need a new motherboard. Which means a new CPU and new RAM, and a new power supply. That is a large chunk of money.

Even though I had preordered already, I still tried the Fileplanet beta and the loading screens every 2 mins is pissing me off.
One of the best things about WoW is the seamless world. Even though AoC is not instanced like GW, the zoning every few minutes while traveling makes it feel like Guild Wars. Just seems like bad implementation of what they were thinking.

Well dont play the game then, instead of complaining about its system requirements. And you can get a motherboard, CPU and graphics card upgrade that will play AoC for around £100 / $149!
It still pisses me that people complain about the requirements for a game lol. You dont HAVE to play it, you dont HAVE to upgrade your PC, but if you want to play any recent game from the year 2008, you obviously need a modern PC to be able to play them.
Heres a nice quote from a full beta review from someone with a little sense:

I can't wait to get my new wis-bang computer just to see all this on the highest settings.
The Artwork is stunning and vivid with such rich colours.
The jungles look like jungles with thick lush bushes, tall trees, gnarled vines etc.
The city of Tortage is a mix of low and high rise buildings it has a hussle and bustle feel about it,guards wonder the streets, pirates hide and attack in back alleys. There are a multitude of quests to do within the city.
But aswell there is also life under the city filled with a maze of paths and tunnels. There are also quests to be done in this underbelly of the city and grouping tends to be more common here.
Aswell there are quite a few zones to explore around the city.
The exact names elude me but the sandy isle sure is a challenge soloing from level 7.
But what I remember most here was the motion captures of the npc's.
Watching one of the natives getting up from a seated position or watching a huge tiger stalking and then chasing another player. It at times really looked as though it was the real thing.
I really can't wait to get out there in the non starter world and see what beautiful things have been created.
This game is brutal and running in and hacking can prove costly. Its often alot better to hold back and watch.Watch what the npc do.They stroll, patrol and split up.
Climbing is a great feature and adds for more dimensional quests.Having some climbing skills is important as without it some of the quests can't be achieved. But you gotta remember to disarm before climbing.Other wise you will be one of hundreds thats spams "how do you climb?"in the chat log.
But wait there's still more.. there is the night version of the game where you undertake an epic quest line that starts from the Starting area.
I played a few toons to level 13 and was pleasantly surprised that these quest lines were different for my conquerer, ranger and nuker. Some of the quests are the same and others approach the themed story line differently depending on what class you are.
I really enjoyed these solo night quests and was disappointed I couldn't progress them further.
One gripe i have at this point is that some of the Mob bosses and mini bosses drop things that aren't usable by your class.I killed these mob bosses a few times with different toons and each time they just dropped the same item.So it doesn't appear at this low level they have a random loot table to offer you a chance to get something you can use.But again this is a starter area and it may be a little more controlled here as a balancing issue.
Also being the solo version of the game you would think that the loot drops would be catered for your character since your the only one that gets the items.
Wait there's still more..yep mini pvp games.Tired of running around feel like a change well you can click your pvp tab and enter mini games like capture the flag etc.I have basically just started playing this 30min before the server went down for patching and tried my hand at capture the flag. It's a good way of practising your skills i guess but IMO it aint my cup of tea.
I personally like a huge seamless world where i can go explore and enter amazing dungeons and the like a la Vanguard.
I give this game the thumbs up for a starter area ignoring the beta glitches.
I guess there could be lots more to discuss but hey like you I want to start downloading my patch.
See you all in game

No offense to you either, but the quote I posted was reffering to the graphics and gameplay of the game. You dont need to be a fanboy to type 'The water in this game and the trees look really good, and the city area of the game is split up like this, with guards walking around and tigers realistically stalking players'.
Learn to read the context of the post. I was reffering it to the fact that gamers dont want WoW style outdated graphics in 2008. We want great, new graphics that take advantage of our gaming PC's.
If your PC cant play a game, that doesnt give you any right to go around posting 'this game wont sell because it cant run on mah pee cee and everyone else has a pee cee lyk mine'.
All the people bashing the game so far and making bad comments about it are basing them either without having played the game themselves, or because they are crying about bugs in the beta, when funcom have already stated that the beta does not use the final game engine. The beta is for bug testing, you are meant to have problems in it and report those problems so they can get fixed.
There will be bugs in the released game yes, but no where near as many as there are in the beta.
Pretty much the same case as people that say 'I havnt ever played WoW, but WoW sux'.

I'm not going to play it, and I was never complaining about the system requirements. I was merely pointing out that the usual 'go buy a video card then' or 'do a simple upgrade' solution people throw around is not a logical solution for a lot of people. Reading comprehension is awesome.

Was I talking to you? No I wasnt. Why do you think I was?
I was initially posting to people saying 'This game is going to suck cos the requirement is too high'.
Is that coming from jealousy or envy or something? A case of 'I cant play the game wah wah wah!!! Lets tell everyone that it is going to fail because it wont run on my PC when WoW does, so we should keep on playing WoW forever'.
Upgrading your PC if you 'WANT' to play the game is a logical solution. You cant seriously have been playing (recent) games for the last two years if you dont have a PC capable of playing AoC, or expect to play a new game on a five year old PC.

If one can get over the comic feel, WoW graphics is outstanding. Excellent attention to terrain detail, smooth animations, extremely high degree of polish and sleekness.
It's a different thing that a lot of people can't stand the comic feel. Its just Warcraft 3 vs Age of Empires 3. WoW never went for realistic graphics and as a result, achieved great performance in older systems while presenting a visually consistent world.
But coming back to AoC, wtf is with the interface. After GW's nice and minimalistic interface and WoW's super customizable and sleek interface, AoC's interface looks like a game in the early 90s

No shaders, no realism, outdated, crap.
WoW graphics today are not outstanding in anyway at all. Though I will give you a + point on your comments about the UI as that could be a problem with the game. But I would have to wait and play it myself to assess how much I am bothered about the UI.
Actually I take away that + point because AoC is being released as moddable and UI changes will be easy to make. It should be just as moddable in the final game as it is in WoW and GW. Dont forget that you are still playing the beta right now which will likely have wxcluded these features.

Yes you can respec your feat/talent trees. Currently in open beta, there's an NPC who does it for you free of cost, but I expect there will be some sort of cost when it goes live
Edit : My friends who are in technical/closed beta tell me that in earlier builds you had a 'Reset All' button in the feat screen itself which got removed in a later build. So it seems devs are aware that this is a necessity, but want some sort of restrictions on it

My son and I are playing the open beta now, which is an earlier build of the game, not what will be released. THIS game is awesome. On May 17, I will kiss guild wars goodbye. I will be running the game in Direct X 10 for sure. When I was younger, I read most of the Conan books, and if the game is recreating that world it will be great. Anet better do a good job on Guild Wars 2 or I want be back.

I want to try the open beta but I haven't been able to find a download site or link to a site that offers the ability to get in. I see plenty advertising for the open beta but that is about it. Could someone send me a link to where I can download the client or get a legitimate beta key to try this out?

I'm sorted now.
Just got myself a nice Euro guild. We'll be playing on the FFA PvP servers
If you're on Euro servers, and looking to play on the FFA servers: http://devast.ucoz.com/ (you have to apply)
Will be a mix of PvE/PvP. Vent isn't required, but is used by most members.
@the above - Don't think you can get in the beta now. Fileplanet stopped giving away keys.
